I am currently enrolled in a class called Community Mental Health. Despite it being weekly three hour long class, it happens to be one of my most favorite class that I look forward to.
With the recent football hype centered around the playoffs, I was obviously rooting for my Denver Broncos. It's a been a long time time coming since we been to the SuperBowl. Proud of the Broncos! Go Broncos!
While the Broncos were kicking ass, there was the other divisional teams to pay attention to, Seattle & SF 49ers. They would be playing at a later time than the Broncos & Patriots. Naturally, being in the Bay Area, I was watching the game with a friend at a local sports bar. I enjoyed the sports environment I was in at the time, but what got my attention was a player on the Seattle Seahawks.
The camera briefly showed Coleman's jersey. And I only knew one Coleman.
I wasn't sure if it was the Derrick Coleman that had the same audiologist as me when we were in high school.
But it turned out to that same Derrick Coleman. I couldn't believe it at first, but this was the same Derrick Coleman that I met up with in high school.
I succinctly remember him giving a speech at the high school we met up at. The audiologist that Derrick Coleman and I shared organized an get together with younger hearing impaired kids. Our audiologist wanted to provide some social & moral support for everyone.
But this is the same Derrick Coleman who went to Troy HS, a rather prestigious high school, and then who went onto to UCLA on a football scholarship I believe. Now, here he is in the NFL playing professional football. It's truly amazing & inspiring in so many ways.
I can't help, but compare my life with his. I'm not doing it to bring shame to myself, but to rather recognize the potential that I could somehow make my dreams come true. I have the same ability & power as Derrick Coleman to get to where I want to go. He's overcame a lot, and I'm sure there were a lot of factors that helped him to get there, but nevertheless, it was his hard work & self-beliefs that got him there.
What amazes me is that his ability to give back & encourage individuals like me to go further.
His success allows me to examine myself and dream even bigger. He went the distances, & I'm going for mine.
Here's his story: Beautiful & Amazing
To be perfectly quite honest, I really do not have any other specific goals for this particular type of blog other than the fact that I want to use this place as an expression and outlet of what it means to be hearing impaired and how I deal with my hearing impairment.
